The expression «notarized translation» is not exactly correct but so far it is familiar and insightful.
Nevertheless, there are some subtleties that must be taken into account.

The term "notarized translation" means a notary certified text translated from / into a foreign language.

A lawyer who legalizes the translation through notarial certification is not responsible for correctness of the translation. The notary’s signature and seal only certify that the translation is done by this particular linguist whose qualification is confirmed by a document on special education in accordance with the legislation of Ukraine. All translator's data including a sample of his/her signature are kept by a notary in the register.

It is necessary to realize that it is the professional translator and not the notary officer who is personally responsible for the quality of the translation and its adequacy.

According to the regulations of Ukraine, not every linguist has a right to prepare translation for its notarization, but only those who have a diploma of higher education indicating "linguist-translator" specialization.

This means that documents translated by a person who does not have a confirmation of special education will not be notarized, even if the translation is performed correctly or it is obvious (for example, translation of birth certificates from Ukrainian into Russian).

The notarization procedure includes verification by a lawyer of a translator’s identity and compliance of his/her education with the requirements of Ukrainian legislation. In addition, the notary attaches the translation to the document itself, certifying this "set" with a personal signature and seal. When notarizing, it is not enough to provide the original and the translation of the document. The personal presence of a translator is required.

That's why if you need a notarized translation of the documents, it makes sense to apply to a translation agency, because the agency employs personnel with appropriate qualifications cooperates with the notaries. The translation of your documents will be notarized faster and at minimum expenses.

Once again there should be emphasized that correctness of the translation is not the responsibility of a notary, but of a translator, even if the translation is notarized. Therefore, when evaluating advantages of cooperation with a translation agency or private contractor, this factor shall be taken into account.
